What will Bill Gates do after retirement?

Monday, June 30th, 2008

The most successful geek in the world, Bill Gates, will retire from his job in July 2008 after around 33 years of doing his job in Microsoft. With his net worth of more than USD 50 billion, he was one of the richest person in the world.

What will Bill Gates do after retirement? Some possible ideas:
1. Spend all of his money travelling around the world.
2. Buy lot of island (not just one island) and develop Cyber Island on it.
3. Donate to poor people

In fact I could not think of any what to do if I got those billion bucks in my account at the moment. So what do you think?

Paypal to your local bank

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Few days ago I tried to withdraw some money from my Paypal account to my local bank (Indonesian Bank) BCA. It stated if you withdraw less than Rp 1.5 mill they would charge you Rp 16,000. That’s fine. I have only less than USD 100 to be withdrawn. I tested this service using only this amount. The exchange rate was quite good too. It was approximately (almost) Rp 9,100 per 1 USD.

According to Paypal info, the withdrawing process from Paypal to my BCA would take around 5 business days. I requested the witdrawing process on last Friday and voila it already arrived on next Tuesday. In fact, the Paypal withdrawing process were done within 3 business days only as we do not count Saturday and Sunday.

This would be a good thing towards the e-commerce in Indonesia. We have a supporting payment processor that can go over international boundaries on this thing. We can sell and buy things using this Paypal. I wish that every Indonesian paypal’s users abide the rules thus the Paypal will not put blacklist on us anymore.

Firefox 3 is ready!

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Firefox 3 is finally ready to be downloaded. Mozilla is trying to break the record of the most downloaded software in one day. So far up to this second, already close to 3 millions downloads all over the world.

I found that Firefox 3 is faster than the previous version one. It has new Gecko rendering engine that handles AJAX heavy pages quickly. Gmail and Google Document site are faster with less lag to open the links. It loads less time than other browser. CSS is fine too. So far I haven’t found any anomaly when regularly browsing certain sites.

One thing bothers me which is the incompatible add-on. I use Firebug a lot. I need to upgrade the Firebug to 1.2 Beta which I think it does not look good compare to the one in FF 2. However other add-ons look fine, they are automatically upgraded when you install FF3 for the first time.

So why don’t you try it now! Now my primary browser is FF3, while I still need IE6 installed for my development purpose.
